Sexually transmitted infections in pregnancy

Matew paipai ki te hapūtanga

It is important to know if you are carrying a sexually transmitted infection (STI) in pregnancy, as some infections can cause harm to your pēpi.

If you have any symptoms of an STI or if you think you might have come into contact with one, speak to your midwife, lead maternity carer (LMC) or general practice team. They can arrange tests and discuss treatment with you.

It is particularly important to let your midwife, LMC or general practice team know if you have ever had genital herpes. This may need some further planning at the time of birth.
