Prescription charges & subsidies

Most medicines your doctor prescribes are subsidised by the Government so you only pay a small part of the cost through the prescription charge. There's no charge for prescriptions for children.

If you and your family pay for more than 20 new prescriptions a year, you may be able to get a prescription subsidy. Tell your pharmacist the names of all the people in your family who are getting prescriptions, so they can keep track of how many prescriptions you've paid for.

Because pharmacists keep your records electronically, you don't need to keep your receipts unless you need them for other purposes such as claiming insurance or benefits.
