Tamaiti Healthy Homes

Cold, damp, crowded homes can increase the risk of respiratory issues and other preventable health conditions, such as rheumatic fever and skin infections. There is strong evidence, nationally and internationally, of improved health outcomes resulting from warmer and drier homes.

Te Whatu Ora – Health New Zealand has set up Healthy Homes initiatives to help eligible whānau create better living environments, especially for tamariki (children).

Tamaiti Healthy Homes aims to increase the number of tamariki living in warm, dry and healthy homes to reduce avoidable hospitalisations and ill health due to housing-related conditions.

In Ōtautahi (Christchurch), Tamaiti Healthy Homes is being administered by Te Puawaitanga ki Ōtautahi Trust and Tangata Atumotu Trust.

If you think your whānau might be eligible for help creating a better living environment, phone 0800-669-957, or fill in a Tamaiti Healthy Homes referral form online.

If you know of whānau with tamariki who may benefit from a housing assessment visit, please let them know about the service.
