These groups are for adults with a condition that affects their ability to speak and communicate.
Alzheimers South Canterbury provides various services including monthly support groups in Timaru, Waimate and Geraldine. See Alzheimers New Zealand Services in South Canterbury for details.
The Head and Neck group is run by a speech-language therapist in coordination with the Cancer Society. It is held at the Cancer Society, 32 Memorial Avenue, Timaru once a term. Meetings are very informal with morning tea and a speaker. Partners are welcome to attend. Call (03) 688-0124 or email for information.
Parkinson's New Zealand offers professional support, information and education for people with, and those providing care for people with Parkinson disease.
It holds education, entertainment and catch up events on the first Monday of each month from 1.30 to 3 pm in Blind Low Vision NZ's rooms at 63 Grey Rd, Timaru.
It runs exercise classes at 10 am every Friday morning at St Stephen's Church, 349 Wai-iti Rd, Timaru. The first Friday of the month is with a community physiotherapist. The third Friday is a partner's discussion group. The fourth Friday is a communication group with a visiting speech-language therapist.
