Haematology Service at Grey Base Hospital

On the West Coast, haematology conditions are mostly treated by general physicians. Specialist haematologists hold outpatient clinics at Grey Base Hospital around four times a year. You might also need to travel to Christchurch for some treatment.

Bone Marrow Transplant Unit

The South Island Bone Marrow Transplant Unit (BMTU) is where people from all over the South Island with blood cancers and other blood disorders are treated.

The following booklet has more information about the unit:

Bone Marrow Transplant Unit patient information.

There is also special information for anyone visiting a patient in the Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.

Ranui House

If you are from out of town and need to travel to Christchurch for treatment, you may be able to arrange accommodation at Ranui House. The Bone Marrow Cancer Trust runs Ranui House as a caring, supportive accommodation facility for out-of-town patients and their families.

Talk to your social worker as soon as possible if you think you will need accommodation at Ranui House so arrangements can be made.
