Having an injury can be a very stressful and confusing time, especially if it affects your ability to work and earn a living.
The Accident Compensation Corporation (ACC) provides injury cover for accidents that happen in New Zealand. It can also sometimes provide injury cover for accidents that happen outside New Zealand to New Zealand citizens. But this depends on how long you have been away from New Zealand.

Generally, you need to submit a claim to ACC within 12 months of your injury.
After an injury, you may be able to do some work, even if you cannot perform all your normal work duties. Your doctor will assess this and can give you a certificate outlining what type of work you can do. For more information about this, see the Recovery at work guide.
