HealthInfo Canterbury
Primary and intermediate school children (year 1 to year 8) get free dental care in dental vans that visit schools, and in local community clinics. The free service operates during school terms, and the school lets parents know when it is available. If your child needs more complicated care or orthodontic treatment, the dental service will arrange referral to a private dentist or to specialist services at Christchurch Hospital.
If you have questions about your child's dental care, you can contact Community Dental Service by phone on 0800‑846‑983 or by email at commdental@cdhb.health.nz. If the service is unavailable, children aged under 18 can get hospital dental care at the Relief of Pain Clinic.
