Etu Pasifika

Etu Pasifika is an integrated general practice clinic and Whānau Ora service. Its healthcare and social workers provide a holistic approach to health care. Its staff speak a range of Pacific languages, including Samoan, Tongan, Fijian, Niuean and Tokelauan.

Medical clinic

  • GP services. Community-based, primary health care. This includes diagnosis, management and treatment of health conditions.
  • Nursing services. Primary care nursing support, patient interventions and treatment within the clinic. From time to time it includes services in people's homes.
  • Child & adolescent health. Health assessments and support services for children and their families. This includes antenatal, birth to five years, and five to sixteen years.
  • Mothers and pēpē. Support for new mothers through pregnancy and with babies under 2.
  • Mental health. Support for individuals and families to maintain their mental health and wellbeing.

Social services

  • Whānau Ora. Improving and strengthening the wellbeing of families. It does this through advocacy and access to health, education, economic and social services.
  • Matua Support. Weekly activities including health and wellbeing services for Pacific elders.
  • Mana Ake. Early intervention mental health programme in schools.
  • Support to quit smoking. Face-to-face support for those wanting to quit.

Mapu Maia works with Pasifika families and communities to be healthy and resilient, free from gambling harm.

Mapu Maia is made up of qualified Pacific practitioners who deliver clinical interventions and educational presentations that are appropriate to the needs of Pacific communities. The team also works collaboratively with community agencies and social services to help them support Pacific families in need.

Services

  • A holistic service to individuals, families and communities that's culturally appropriate and effective.
  • Free, professional and confidential counselling services and education.
  • Can meet you where you most feel comfortable, whether that's in our offices or in your home.
  • Our experienced and qualified staff work with you and your family.
  • Language support in English, Samoan and Tongan.
  • Well established connection with Pacific communities, Pacific leaders, agencies and social services including government and non-government agencies.
  • Partners with grassroots organisations to collaborate on community projects, promote Pacific health messages and raise awareness of help services available through radio programmes, community events and social media campaigns.
  • Regularly runs workshops and delivers presentations to church groups, sports teams, agencies and services on wellbeing, gambling harm, recognising symptoms, co-existing issues and help services.
  • Evidence-based fact sheets, information and support to communities so they can have an informed voice when addressing social issues and gambling harm within their own communities.

  • Mobile nursing service providing clinical and non-clinical support for people with chronic medical conditions including diabetes, heart disease and respiratory disease.
  • Siva Samoa – Physical activity programme for elders based around Samoan music and dance.
  • Island Breeze Social Club – Traditional crafting including weaving, block printing and handcrafts based on skills from the Islands.
  • Petani – Traditional crafting programme based around sewing and stitching.
  • Polyhood – Our English-language Pasifika radio programme is always looking for new initiatives to showcase. Contact us If you have a programme or issue you would like to promote among the Pasifika community. Listen in on 96.9 Plains FM, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 4 pm.

Vaka Tautua

Vaka Tautua is a national “by Pacific, for Pacific” health and social services provider. In Canterbury, it operates Disability Information Advisory Services (DIAS). DIAS focuses on providing independent information and advice to Pacific peoples with disabilities, their families, caregivers and the general public.

Services

Information and advice may include:

  • what disability support services are available and how to access them
  • how to find support and advocacy groups
  • how to navigate the different disability services
  • information related to a specific disability.

Most of the DIAS coordinators have “lived experience” of disability – as service users or carers/support people.
