There are things you can do to prevent diabetic eye disease, or keep it as mild as possible to protect your vision. Make sure you:

You can see an optometrist. Or you may want to see an ophthalmologist (eye doctor and surgeon). While you will not need to pay for a diabetes eye check as part of the retinal screening programme, you will have to pay for other services from an optometrist or ophthalmologist.
